Intro to Thai Massage: Side-lying & Seated Positioning

Course Description: The Intro to Thai: Side-lying & Seated Positioning course prepares the therapist for providing a full body massage working all sen sib (10 energy lines) in these two positions. The course will incorporate basic understanding of the sen sib lines and massage application techniques including the various compression techniques and stretches to work these lines. It will also address modifications for safe, effective, and adaptive massage. No oil is used and the client remains fully clothed.
Intro to Thai Massage: Stretching

Course Description: The Intro to Thai Massage: Stretching course prepares the therapist for providing a full body stretching routine working all sen sib (10 energy lines) in 4 positions including: supine, prone, side-lying and seated. The course will incorporate basic understanding of the sen sib lines, warm-up exercises and stretches for the therapist in preparation of the session, as well as warm-up application techniques for the client including the various compressions and stretches to work the energy lines. A strong focus will be on client assessment and body mechanics to perform safe effective full body stretches for both the client and therapist. The course will also address modifications for adaptive massage. No oil is used and the client remains fully clothed.
Intro to Thai Table Massage

Course Description: The Intro to Thai Table Massage takes the basic Thai Massage concepts that are generally performed on a mat and provides techniques that are adapted to the table. This course prepares the therapist for providing a full body routine working all sen sib (10 energy lines) in 3 positions including: supine, prone and side-lying. Techniques will include compression, thumb pressure and passive stretching. No oil is used and the client remains fully clothed.
Intro to Thai Massage: Supine Position

The intro to Thai Supine position prepares the therapist for working on the front of the client’s body. It demonstrates a basic relaxing warm-up of compressions and gentle stretching and gradually works into a rhythmic approach of detailed point work along the sen sib (10 energy lines) and intensive full body stretching. This is a highly intensive floor modality performed on a professional thai mat and is often referred to as "Lazy Man's yoga." The client remains fully clothed and no oils are used. Some modifications can be demonstrated so that it can be adapted to a table.
Intro to Thai Massage: Prone Position

The Intro to Thai Massage Prone Position prepares the therapist for working on the back of the client’s body. Due to the intensity of the work as well as the need to master the art of application, it is helpful to break the material into the client’s positioning. The class will incorporate some of the basic understanding of the Sen Lines being worked as well as the stretches used while the client is lying prone. This is a floor modality, however, modifications will be demonstrated so that it can be adapted to a table. The client remains fully clothed
Thai Herbal Ball: Creation & Application

Thai Herbal Ball therapy is an application of a heat compress made of cotton, that is filled with healing herbs. The student of this class will have the opportunity to make their own herbal balls, and then learn how to apply them to the body. The Thai use herbs with specific healing properties, the student will gain an understanding of the use of these herbs, why they are chosen as components of the Herbal Ball and how to supplement Thai herbs with more accessible herbs without diminishing the healing effects.
Thai Foot Reflexology

Thai Foot Reflexology, although based on the concepts of the Chinese art, has many differences from the reflexology protocols learned in the West. This class will inform the student on Thai methods of warming up the feet, the use of wooden Reflex sticks to stimulate points, as well as leg massage applying techniques that stimulate the Sen Sib lines from Thai Massage theory.
Joanna has studied Thai massage from five different schools in Chiang Mai, Thailand and completed over 100 hours in training from these schools including, TMC, ITM, Old Medicine Hospital, Wat Po and Namo. Lotus has created courses that have taken this information learned from both northern and southern style of Thai Massage and made it accessible for westerners to practice within the licensure requirements as well as any individual who is interested in learning this style of "Lazy Man's Yoga".
