Course Descriptions

Intro to Thai Massage: Supine Position

CE Hours: 8

The intro to Thai Supine position prepares the therapist for working on the front of the client’s body. The student will be able to apply the routine and points for working the Sen Lines and applying the stretches that occur with the client in supine positioning. This is a floor modality, however, modifications will be demonstrated so that it can be adapted to a table. The client remains fully clothed.

Intro to Thai Massage: Prone Position

CE Hours: 8

The Intro to Thai Massage Prone Position prepares the therapist for working on the back of the client’s body. Due to the intensity of the work as well as the need to master the art of application, it is helpful to break the material into the client’s positioning. The class will incorporate some of the basic understanding of the Sen Lines being worked as well as the stretches used while the client is lying prone. This is a floor modality, however, modifications will be demonstrated so that it can be adapted to a table. The client remains fully clothed

Thai Herbal Ball: Creation & Application

CE Hours: 8

Thai Herbal Ball therapy is an application of a heat compress made of cotton, that is filled with healing herbs. The student of this class will have the opportunity to make their own herbal balls, and then learn how to apply them to the body. The Thai use herbs with specific healing properties, the student will gain an understanding of the use of these herbs, why they are chosen as components of the Herbal Ball and how to supplement Thai herbs with more accessible herbs without diminishing the healing effects.

Thai Foot Reflexology

CE Hours: 8

Thai Foot Reflexology, although based on the concepts of the Chinese art, has many differences from the reflexology protocols learned in the West. This class will inform the student on Thai methods of warming up the feet, the use of wooden Reflex sticks to stimulate points, as well as leg massage applying techniques that stimulate the Sen Sib lines from Thai Massage theory.

Intro to Shiatsu

CE Hours: 16

This course provides the student with an understanding of the beginning level of Shiatsu therapy. It covers the basic history of Shiatsu massage, Philosophy of TCM and theory of Meridians and Energy. The student will be able to provide clients with Hands on Treatment at the Relaxation Level.

Lomi Lomi Temple Bodywork Introduction, Part I & Part II

CE Hours: 16

Lomi Lomi is the Hawaiian term which simply means to weave or massage. This course is an introduction to the principles of Huna which are the foundation of the Hawaiian Temple Healing Practice of Lomi Lomi. It is more than manipulation of tissue; it is a spiritual journey in finding oneself and inner peace. This course will demonstrate how the Shamanic dance of “Flying” is integrated into the massage movements. Lomi lomi predominately uses the forearm to apply massage techniques in the prone and supine position. The therapist will learn about the sacred journey that both they and their clients will embark by participating in this unified sacred style of bodywork. This is a 3 part course including an Introduction (4 CEs), Part I: Back of the Body (6 CEs) and Part II: Front of the Body (6 CEs).

Sports Massage Techniques and Stretching

CE Hours: 16

The sports class is a practical application course that addresses a variety of needs of both professional athletes and general clients with a fitness focused lifestyle. The course addresses sport- specific movements, major muscle groups, common injuries, treatment protocols, and multiple types of stretching.

ThermoTherapy: Hot Stone and Hot Oil

CE Hours: 16

This Thermo-Therapy course will provide the student with the tools to safely and effectively give a hot stone and a hot oil massage. Thermotherapy (heat therapy) has been used by many cultures for centuries. Heat increases relaxation, immunity, and local blood flow. It decreases tension in the muscles and softens the superficial fascia. The following topics will be addressed: History of Hot Stone Massage, Types of Stones and their Uses, Risks of Offering Hot Stone Massage, How to appropriately clean your hot stones, Benefits of Hot Oil Massage and Application of Hot Oil.

Pregnancy Massage

CE Hours: 8

The Pregnancy Massage course provides the student with the knowledge necessary to safely work with pregnant clients. The following topics will be addressed: Myths of Pregnancy Massage, Common Discomforts of Pregnancy, Contraindications for Pregnancy Massage, Safe and Effective Massage Techniques. Upon completion of this course the student will be able to provide a safe and effective Massage for Pregnant Clients.

Ethics – Communication

CE Hours: 4

This course addresses difficult ethical issues that massage therapists are often confronted with in the workplace. It includes discussions, scenarios, activities, and exercises as a tool to guide the massage therapist through establishing therapeutic communication skills.

Ethics – Boundaries

CE Hours: 4

This course addresses difficult ethical issues that massage therapists are often confronted with. It includes discussions, scenarios, activities and exercises as a tool to guide the massage therapist through establishing boundaries that will strengthen the therapeutic relationships between clients and therapists.

Ethics – Diversity in the Workplace

CE Hours: 4

This course provides tools for the massage therapist to understand, respect, and value diversity in their work environment. It demonstrates how opening one’s mind to other points of view can be critical for a successful career.
